WRT President’s Message
Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists in the 2017 PRIME7 Wellington People’s Choice Awards.
You have made such a mark on your customers that they have taken the time to go online and vote for you, amidst a field of outstanding businesses, attractions and community groups. Your talent, passion, dedication and hard work is acknowledged, as is your contribution to the Wellington tourism industry.
Together, we are maintaining and growing a vibrant and exciting visitor economy, blessed with internationally recognised natural assets; a wealth of talented and experienced producers, artisans and business-people, and an engaged, positive and enthusiastic community that holds a vast store of regional pride.
Our challenge, together, is to continue to improve and develop our industries, encourage innovation and new ideas and spread the word about what a great destination this is. We must then back that message up with a fantastic, consistent and memorable experience for our visitors at every touch point of their journey through our region.
I continue to be amazed by Wellington’s diversity, the high quality of the experiences it offers, and the ease with which they can be accessed. The Wellington People’s Choice Awards celebrate your achievements and successes in making this so
I would also like to thank Wellington Regional Tourism’s Board Members for another great year. 2016/17 has been a big one for WRT so far. We signed a new MOU with Wellington Shire Council and have taken on a much larger marketing role than we held previously.
We said farewell to our dynamic and renowned Executive Officer Bernie Dillon, and welcomed a new dynamic and soon-to-be renowned EO, Liz Whitehill.
We have increased our digital presence and increased our levels of engagement on social media. We have attended consumer shows and worked closely with Destination Gippsland and Visit Victoria to ensure our region has a strong representation in their marketing campaigns. As well, we have undertaken our own marketing across a range of platforms and channels, all chosen to target markets with the greatest yield potential for Wellington.
The team at WRT is here to help you in your quest to deliver quality products and services that contribute to an excellent visitor experience in this region. We provide a voice at local, state and national levels, in both political and tourism forums. Above all, we work to ensure that our offers, attractions and experiences are seen and heard in a noisy marketplace, and that our region is increasingly recognised as a destination in its own right; that our visitors return for more, and that they strongly recommend us to their friends and family. Our objective is to increase yield within the industry by encouraging longer stays and attracting new visitors.
